Fibre Cut Disrupts Vocus Network, Impacting Customers Across Victoria and NSW

Vocus customers across Victoria and New South Wales experienced a significant service disruption following a fibre break near Broadford, approximately 32 kilometres north of Melbourne.

The incident, which occurred around 8:40 am AEST, affected both inter-capital and regional transmission services, disrupting network traffic across the two states. Vocus alerted customers shortly after 10 am, confirming that the outage was caused by a fault in a key transmission link.

“Vocus has identified a fault on the network affecting inter-capital transmission and regional transmission services due to a fibre break,” the company said in a service update.

In response, Vocus dispatched field technicians and engaged specialist fibre teams to investigate and repair the damaged infrastructure. By late morning, technicians had arrived on-site, with splicing contractors deployed to begin restoration work.

The telecommunications provider has not yet disclosed the root cause of the fibre cut or provided a timeline for full service restoration. The scale of the impact also remains unclear, though the disruption affected multiple services and customers across both states.

The outage highlights the critical dependence on fibre infrastructure for inter-state connectivity and the potential for widespread service interruptions when key transmission links are compromised.
