Microsoft Revamps HR Team to Adapt to AI-Driven Changes

Microsoft is restructuring its Human Resources (HR) division to better adapt to rapid technological change and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the workplace. The overhaul is aimed at making the company more adaptable and responsive in an AI-driven business environment.

Chief People Officer Amy Coleman emphasized the need for employees and leadership to focus on adaptability and operate at a faster pace as technology, work culture, and organizational structures continue to evolve. She stated that companies are no longer scaling for stability but must now scale for adaptability to remain competitive.

As part of the restructuring, Lindsay-Rae McIntyre will leave Microsoft at the end of the month to take on a Chief People Officer role at another company. Leslie Lawson Sims will take over her role, focusing on strengthening company culture and accelerating the performance of the people team across the organization.

The restructuring follows several leadership changes at Microsoft in recent months. These include the departure of gaming chief Phil Spencer and productivity head Rajesh Jha. In addition, security executive Charlie Bell recently transitioned into a different role within the company.

Amy Coleman became Chief People Officer in March 2025, shortly after Microsoft laid off around 2,000 employees as part of performance-based workforce changes.

Under the new HR structure, Microsoft will combine all engineering HR teams under Mel Simpson to improve coordination with engineering and product teams. The company has also moved its people analytics team to the employee experience division led by Nathalie D’Hers.

Microsoft has also created a new “workforce acceleration” team, led by Justin Thenutai, which will focus on improving workforce skills, productivity, and adaptability as AI continues to transform how companies operate.

Overall, the HR overhaul reflects Microsoft’s strategy to reorganize its workforce and leadership structure to keep up with the fast-changing AI-driven business environment and future workplace transformation.
